It uses a different frame than Roadbikes, with front suspension (Fork) and some with Rear Suspension. MTB's use a wider tire than roadies. Dami din different kinds of MTB's there are the Cross Country MTB's, All Mountain (Trail) MTB's, Freeride Bikes, Urban Jump MTB's and Downhill Bikes. If you plan to bike in off road trails, you can use the Cross Country and/or All Mountain MTB's. Check out this Wikipedia article for more info: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mountain_BikeYou are welcome to join in trail rides if you like in the future.

Although they were really made for off-road riding. The XC (Cross Country) bike is more lighter and has a shorter shock travel, the AM (All Mountain) or Trail bike is more heavy duty. It depends on the kind of riding that you want. Here is an XC bike: Here is an AM bike: Check out the gallery section, you can use the bikes for those trails.

Try to get a hardtail frame first to assess yourself before switching if you want a full suspension frame, most XC riders uses hardtal for pedal efficiency, aside for not being heavy on pocket
