Good day. I've used Shimano since the late 80's and just recently started using SRAM on my '07 Specialized Stumpjumper Expert. I'll be sticking with the SRAM product for a while ;D.
The shifting action on the X9 shifter with X.0 rear der. has a more positive feel on the engagement. My bro.'s '07 XTR shifter and rear der. has very similar characteristics, and if I were to switch back to Shimano, I'll definitely consider this model over the other Deore line they have.
Ride safe

i've had shimano's on all my previous bikes (road bikes - ultegra back in the nineties ), so i went with shimano on my mountain bike (xt all the way). i really have'nt tried anything else but shimano, from the deore all the way to the xt, sorry can't afford xtr just yet.

I have just put on a 2nd hand XTR RD on my MTB. Shifting has been more responsive as compared to a deore RD. Even after 4 trail rides, I have not made any adjustments... I still can easily shift through all the 9 cogs. I'm using a LX DCL for a shifter.

actually i'm using a combination of both shimano and sram on my 2 HT bikes and by the way - sram, avid, truvativ and rockshock are one company now 1st bike shimano xt crank, rd, fd and shifter sram cassette and chain avid bb7 mech db, 6" 2nd bike truvativ crank, xt rd, deore fd and shifter sram cassette and chain avid bb7 mech db, 6" so for my bikes - shimano and sram are complementary and i'm happy and satisfied with this set-up

If you have the budget go for the SRAM. But for me I'm already satisfied with my shimano components.

i used shimano before and it works great naman but sometimes i've experienced this what you called "ghost shifting" it's hard especially if you already had your pace then suddenly it will shift automatically to your next cog. then i've heard and read some reviews about SRAM drivetrain...those people said that it's better daw than shimano but i didn't believe kasi i haven't tried pa nga. i finally decided to change my drivetrain to sram this few months ago then it came...
WOW!!! precise and crisp shifting, quick response, 1:1 ratio, lightweight, what more can you ask for? SRAM for me is the best!!! TWO THUMBS UP ;D
try it to believe it!!!

HT: xtr 06 dcl xtr 06 rear der xtr 9sp cogset xt crank
FS: sram x.o trigger shifter sram x.o black box rear der sram 9sp cogset truvativ stylo gxp crank
used these bikes in really bad riding conditions (rain, mud, etc). both bikes are pampered, tuned by johnny of extreme bikeshop every 6 months or more. i am very happy with both. but the seductive curves of xtr is no match to the exotic beauty of cnc aluminum and carbon components of sram.

for drivetrain, i have only experience on shimano. other than rock shox (which SRAM owns) i don't have any SRAM products on my bike. budget wise i cant i affort it ha ha ha. anyway, so far shimano works for me, it's easier to replace parts too, knowing that the lbs around my bock carries shimano or at least shimano compatible components
